Gallifuoco says goodbye to KL City fans… for now

KUALA LUMPUR: With three games remaining in the Super League, it's all over for KL City defender Giancarlo Gallifuoco.

On Wednesday, the Australian confirmed in an Instagram post that he was recovering from a fractured cheekbone.

"Unfortunately, due to three fractures on my cheekbone, my 2023 season is over.

"For the next three games, I'll be supporting the boys from the stands and cheering them on to finish the season strong.

"Thank you very much, 2023. See you all in 2024 for another year to grow, learn, work, and make you all proud."

Gallifuoco, who joined KL City in 2021, played 27 games and scored once for the team.

It is understood that the 29-year-old is contracted to the club until 2025.

His absence comes as a massive blow as KL City seek to end the season on a high.

Their three remaining league matches are against Kelantan United on Sunday, Kuching City on Dec 10, and Sri Pahang on Dec 17.

Nenad Bacina's team are eighth with 31 points from 23 games.

The club recently confirmed that they are facing salary woes.

Surviving on an annual budget of just RM10 million since 2021, KL City still managed to reach three finals in three years.

They won the 2021 Malaysia Cup and finished runners-up in the 2022 AFC Cup and the 2023 FA Cup.
