JDT end perfect season with 8-0 thrashing of Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: It was another unbeaten season for Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) as thrashed Penang 8-0 in their final Super League match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri today.

Winger Arif Aiman Hanapi emerged as the hero, scoring four goals in the fifth, 47th, 52nd and 90th minutes.

Bergson da Silva (17th and 33rd), Akhyar Rashid (41st) and Heberty Andrade (43rd) completed the rout.

The big win capped JDT's stranglehold in the M-League as they completed a double treble winning the Super League, FA Cup and the Malaysia Cup. They also won the treble last season.

However, the only setback was JDT's failure to retain the Golden Boot award.

Da Silva ended his campaign with 21 goals with Selangor striker Ayron del Valle already netting 23 goals with one match to go.

It is JDT's fourth unbeaten Super League campaign after the 2016, 2020 and 2022 seasons.

The Southern Tigers were in a different class this season, scoring 100 goals and conceding only seven goals and collecting 76 points from 26 matches.

In total, JDT scored an impressive 162 goals across all competitions.
