KUALA LUMPUR: Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar turned hero for the national Under-23 team in an international friendly against their counterparts from China yesterday.
He scored in stoppage time with a header in the 1-0 win.
Despite the match being played in freezing weather at the Shanghai Jishan Sports Centre Stadium, the Malaysian team, helmed by Spaniard Juan Torres Garrido, put on an energetic show.
Team manager Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said: "The boys played well and performed according to the game plan. This match has given us the confidence."
The Malaysian team are preparing for the Under-23 Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar, in April next year.
