Triple blow to Harimau Malaya

DOHA: Harimau Malaya have been dealt an early blow in their quest for a history-making Asian Cup outing as three players are on the crock list ahead of Monday's opening Group E match against Jordan here on Monday.

Midfielder Endrick dos Santos, who did not train with the team at the Qatar University field on Thursday, may not be available for all three group matches, while left-back La'vere Corbin-Ong could be ruled out of the opening game.

Right-back Matthew Davies is also recovering from a minor injury but should be available for the game against Jordan.

The players picked up leg injuries during the recent 2-2 draw against Syria in a non-A friendly.

Sabah's Daniel Ting is the top choice to replace Corbin-Ong, while Brendan Gan, Afiq Fazail and Natxo Insa are the options to fill in the void left by Dos Santos.

Malaysia will meet Jordan at the Al Janoub Stadium on Monday.

Harimau Malaya's other group matches are against Bahrain on Jan 20 and former champions South Korea on Jan 25.

Kim Pan Gon's side hope to make history by reaching the round of 16 for the first time in the tournament. - Bernama
