We are underdogs, says Harimau captain [NSTTV]

DOHA: Captain Matthew Davies has urged all parties, including fans, not to place unrealistic expectations on Harimau Malaya at the Asian Cup.

The 29-year-old defender said fans should consider Harimau Malaya underdogs in the tournament.

He, however, assured that the squad will do their best to achieve positive results in Doha, starting with their Group E opener against Jordan at the Al Janoub Stadium tomorrow.

"We (Malaysia) are ranked No. 130 and are the underdogs compared to the other teams in Group E, especially South Korea," said Matthew in Doha yesterday.

"Bahrain and Jordan are also ranked higher than us, so I hope the fans will maintain a realistic outlook."

World No. 23 South Korea are the outright favourites in Group E, while No. 86 Bahrain and No. 87 Jordan are also ranked higher than Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Jordan captain Ehsan Haddad is expecting a tough match against Malaysia.

"However, we are prepared and want to walk away with three points," said Ehsan.

"Malaysia have their strengths, so we must be at our best."
