'Oldster' Insa can be wily

DOHA: At 38, Malaysia's Natxo Insa is the fifth oldest player at the Asian Cup in Qatar.

In fact the selection of the Spanish-Malaysian midfielder for the 26-man Malaysia team has raised eyebrows due to his age.

National coach Kim Pan Gon believes that Insa's vast experience can steady the Malaysian ship.

But Insa's Asian Cup debut is one to forget as Malaysia suffered two losses, 4-0 to Jordan and 1-0 to Bahrain.

Insa, who earned his first international cap under Nelo Vingada in 2018, said the team managed to get themselves together for a better showing against Bahrain after the crushing loss to Jordan in their Group E opener.

"We were so unlucky as Bahrain scored in stoppage time," said Insa.

And the veteran hopes his experience will make a difference against South Korea on Thursday.
