Malaysian match officials shine in Doha

DOHA: Malaysian referee Nazmi Nasaruddin, linesman Zairul Khalil Tan and match official Arif Shamil Rasid proved to be on the ball at the Asian Cup when they took charge of the Iraq-Vietnam match at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Wednesday.

In a thriller that saw Iraq win 3-2, Nazmi was seen referring to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) on some calls.

Earlier, Nazmi acted as the fourth match official for the China-Tajikistan (Jan 13) and Iraq-Japan (Jan 19) fixtures.

Zairul and Arif were named as a reserve assistant referee for the China-Tajikistan and Iraq-Japan matches respectively.

The three Malaysians were among 35 referees and 39 assistant referees selected for the Asian Cup in Doha from Jan 12-Feb 10.
