Former football star Kok Hong dies of heart complications

KUALA LUMPUR: A day after the demise of Khalid Ali, Malaysian football lost another icon with the death of former international Moey Kok Hong.

FAM announced today that Kok Hong had died of heart complications at the age of 56.

Kok Hong played for Malaysia in the 1998 Tiger Cup and also featured for the Malaysian XI against Arsenal at the National Stadium in a friendly in 1999.

The former Penang skipper scored a goal as his team beat Selangor 2-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium to win the Premier League 1 trophy in 1998.

Kok Hong, who also served as Penang's assistant coach in 2019, had suffered a minor heart attack during one of their training sessions.

Penang FC, conveyed its condolences to the family of the late Kok Hong in its social media page.

"The late Kok Hong will be remembered for scoring Penang's equaliser against Selangor in the Shah Alam Stadium before Merzagua Abderrazak completed the comeback on a glorious night to win the Premier League 1 title in 1998.

"May the late Kok Hong's family be strong in facing this testing time. The legend will be missed and remembered forever."

It is said that Kok Hong will be cremated at his birthplace in Butterworth on Friday.

Yesterday, Malaysian football was stunned by the death of the legendary Khalid Ali at the age of 66 after a long battle with lung cancer.
