MFL will only take away teams' licence as a last resort

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) will not throw the book right away at teams who owe their players, salaries.

MFL chief executive officer Datuk Stuart Ramalingam said the clubs will go through several processes before punitive action is taken against them.

He said this after several players from Kedah and Kuala Lumpur complained on social media that they have not been paid their salaries from last season.

Stuart said taking away the M-League licences from errant clubs is not the answer.

He said even Fifa goes through the due processes in dealing with clubs, and the cancellation of participation is only the last option after all other actions are exhausted.

"There are several actions that we can take before withdrawing the licences of the clubs for unpaid wages. These include fines, points deductions and transfer bans," said Stuart.
