FAM supports Fifa's efforts to stamp out racism

KUALA LUMPUR: Fifa's placing racism as a main agenda at the upcoming Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, in May has struck a chord with the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

Fifa president Gianni Infantino has been vocal about tackling racism in football and urged all its 211 members nations to come together in dealing with the issue.

FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin, who is a Fifa council member, agrees with the Swiss-Italian football administrator and hints that FAM could make their own suggestions come May.

"I think it's a good idea. Maybe, during the congress, we (FAM) will put in our resolution," said Hamidin.

Despite various steps taken, racism continues to be an issue in global football.

AC Milan's French goalkeeper Mike Maignan briefly left the pitch during their away match against Udinese due to racist chants from the home fans.

Coventry City's Kasey Palmer said he was the target of racial abuse by some Sheffield Wednesday supporters. Both incidents occurred last month.

The M-League has also not been spared from such issues in the past.
