Turtles out to topple JDT in the new season

KUALA LUMPUR: The sponsors are coming in, and the Turtles believe they are ready to fly in the Super League.

And the new financial backers even want to see Terengganu overtaking Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) despite the Southern Tigers having made the league a one-horse race.

They believe Terengganu now have the financial muscles to slug it out with JDT, toe to toe.

Terengganu have just received another RM250,000 in sponsorship for the 2024-2025 season.

To date, Terengganu have signed with 24 parties, bringing in close to RM7.3 million sponsorship in cash and in kind for the new season which kicks off on May 10.

Terengganu's newest sponsor - Rimba Razia - wants to see the East Coast side outshining the Southern Tigers.

Rimba Razia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zakaria Razak said Terengganu can be a serious contender in the upcoming season.

"Last year we were runners-up (Malaysia Cup), so it's not impossible for us to emerge as champions and beat a team as strong as JDT," said Zakaria today.

"Success can be achieved with determination or with a burning desire to become champions."

He said a comprehensive training programme with sports science can help Terengganu reach the peak in Malaysian football.

Last season, Terengganu, under Croatian-German coach Tomislav Steinbruckner, also finished sixth in the Super League and reached the FA Cup semi-finals.
