FAM warns youth players to respect referees

KUALA LUMPUR: A referee was beaten last year, and this time FAM has warned the hotheaded young footballers to behave.

Eighteen teams will take part in the Youth Cup (starting on April 21) and 16 teams in the President's Cup (April 27).

FAM competition committee deputy chairman Md Dali Wahid, at a press conference today, warned the participants to behave.

"We don't want to see any bad incidents, like what happened last season. A referee was beaten."

Dali said the two competitions can also serve as a platform for states to choose their players for the Malaysia Games in August.

The Youth Cup will see the debut of Malaysian Indian Football Association's Touchtronics FC. The other teams are Selangor, Johor Darul Ta'zim IV, Sabah, Kuching City, Perlis United, Mokhtar Dahari Academy Under-16, Melaka FA, Police, Kelantan United, Kelantan, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu IV, Sei Pahang, Perak IV, KL City and Kedah.

The teams in the President's Cup are JDT III, Negri Sembilan, Sabah, Kuching City, Terengganu III, Kedah, KL City, Penang, Perak III, Kelantan United, AMD U-17, Sri Pahang, Melaka FA, Selangor, Kelantan and Police.
