Haqimi is well armed with Korean and Spanish drill

KUALA LUMPUR: What he has learnt from the Korean will be used to impress the Spaniard.

Striker Haqimi Azim Rosli had a nine-day training stint with South Korean coach Kim Pan Gon's national senior team before rejoining Spaniard Juan Torres Garrido's national Under-23 team last Saturday.

Following their time with the senior side, Haqimi feels that he and the other youth players can boost the Malaysian team for next month's Under-23 Asian Cup in Doha.

The 1.85m Haqimi said he learned a lot under Pan Gon, and he hopes to now impress Garrido.

"The training with the national squad last week gave me the chance to learn new things, especially from coach Kim.

"If I'm lucky enough to go to Doha, I will apply all the lessons I learned from the seniors to help the Under-23 squad," said the 21-year-old Kuala Lumpur City player.

Haqimi broke onto the M-League scene in 2022 when he came on as a substitute in several matches for KL City, showing his ability to play in the attacking third or as a flanker and sometimes as a centre-forward.

He was also chosen by Pan Gon for the 2022 AFF Cup, which led to him earning four caps and scoring one goal.

In last year's M-League, Haqimi played 23 games in all competitions, starting in eight of them, scoring one goal and having two assists.

The national Under-23 team will play friendly matches against India on March 22 and March 25 in Kuala Lumpur before departing for Doha on March 31. They will also play friendlies against China and Qatar on April 3 and 7 respectively before beginning their Asian Cup campaign on April 17.

Malaysia are drawn in Group D with Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Kuwait in the Under-23 Asian Cup.
