Safee Sali to tell his side of the story in marriage breakup

KUALA LUMPUR: Former football star Safee Sali said he will tell his side of the story in response to the claims made by his ex-wife, Fitria Elfina Maharip.

In a brief response to a viral video, Safee's manager, Dr. Faidauz Azhar, said today: "We will release an official statement soon."

On Monday, Fitria Elfina claimed she has been suffering from mental torture.

The 44-year-old housewife said she misses her two children, Shania Safina, 7, and Shanika Salsabila, 9, who were allegedly taken away by Safee on Feb 6 after he stated his intention to divorce through a voice mail.

Fitria, when met at the Shah Alam Syariah High Court, had reportedly disclosed that Safee had filed for divorce under nusyuz following claims of her "leaving" her two children to return to Batam, Indonesia.

"I did not leave my children, I placed them under the care of my family members. This is because Safee has both their passports.

"He did not stop me from returning to my hometown (Batam). I returned to Batam to complain and seek protection from my elder brother.

"I have endured this for a year and suffered mental torture daily before finding out that Safee had secretly wed on Jan 26 in Thailand," alleged Fitria.

So far, Safee has not posted anything about the issue, and has instead focused on his daily podcasting and punditry on the national football team with a television station.
