Malaysia make clear their intention to beat Oman

KUALA LUMPUR: Defender La'Vere Corbin-Ong feels that Oman are beatable, and Malaysia aim to do just that in a World Cup football qualifier at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

Though Malaysia lost 2-0 to Oman in the away leg on Thursday in Muscat, Corbin said he and his teammates are targeting a win at Bukit Jalil.

Corbin-Ong said while world No.132 Malaysia have to give world No.80 Oman 'a bit of respect', he believes Harimau Malaya can get a result on Tuesday.

"They're not unbeatable or anything like that,'' said Corbin-Ong.

There is a sense of quiet self-belief in the Malaysian camp, and player Shahrul Saad said Oman aren't as tough as Jordan, Bahrain and South Korea, whom they faced in the Asian Cup in Doha in January.

"I don't think Oman are as strong as the other teams that we played at the Asian Cup.

"I think we can do something on our ground because we have our own strengths when we play here.

We'll take the opportunity to defeat them,'' said Shahrul.

At the Asian Cup in January, Oman did slightly better than Malaysia to end their group in third place with two draws (Thailand 0-0 and Kyrgyzstan 1-1) but suffered a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia.

Malaysia finished last in Group E with a 3-3 draw against South Korea but lost 4-0 to Jordan and 1-0 to Bahrain

Oman currently lead Group D in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, ahead of second-placed Kyrgyzstan and third-placed Malaysia on goals difference. Winless Taiwan are last.
