Salah 'threatened to get sent off' as lip reader decodes why Klopp spat started

KUALA LUMPUR: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah allegedly warned Jurgen Klopp "I will get a red card" during a row with his manager, Jurgen Klopp, in Saturday's 2-2 draw at West Ham.

The result all ended the Premier League title challenge of the Reds after Michail Antonio's late equaliser, but it was the touchline clash between the pair that dominated the post-match talk.

Their problems were highlighted at the London Stadium when Klopp and Salah could be seen getting visibly angry with each other before the Egyptian was introduced as a substitute in the 78th minute, with Darwin Nunez having to step in and separate the two staple pieces of Liverpool's last decade.

The confrontation appeared to start when Salah reluctantly shook Klopp's hand before he went onto the field, seemingly angry about being given just 12 minutes to make an impact.

According to Sportbible via lip reader John Cassidy, Salah said: "There's nothing I can do about that, nothing."

A further exchange followed, although what Klopp then said wasn't clear.

When Salah finally was ready to replace Luis Diaz, Cassidy claimed he threatened to get dismissed, telling Klopp: "I will, I will get a red card, after seven years, after seven years' service, after seven years!"

It was Nunez who then intervened, ushering his team-mate away, but it was reignited after the final whistle.

After the incident, Salah ignored his manager as he walked onto the pitch at full-time, the 31-year-old then told reporters 'If I speak, there will be fire' when walking through the mixed zone.

Prior to the row, Salah's future had already been the subject of speculation, having been linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League.

And with his contract set to expire next year, Liverpool would need to cash in this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 12 months' time if they cannot agree a new deal.

However, according to The Athletic, the Reds are confident Salah will stay, despite his aforementioned contract situation and the continued interest from Saudi Arabia.

The German boss himself refused to comment on the Salah situation after the draw.

"We spoke about that in the dressing room and it's done for me," he said in his press conference.
