Gavin hopes to find his touch on the greens

KUALA LUMPUR: Losing focus towards the end of his game cost Malaysia's Gavin Green his first round at the CIMB Classic today.

The Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, who started on the 10th hole, managed a one-over-par 73 to end his first day challenge at tied 60th.

Gavin started his play well but a double bogey on the 7th and a bogey on the 9th put a dent to his performance.

"I started well but ended my round disappointedly after getting a double bogey and a bogey,” he said.

“I failed to putt well. Whatever it is, it’s a great experience to play with Justin (Thomas) and Xander (Schauffele)," he said in reference to the two other golfers on his flight.

Thomas is a two-time CIMB Classic champion while Schauffele ended his round on a high for joint second.

In regard to his preparation for today's second round, Gavin said he wants to avoid making the same mistakes.

"I have to be more patient. I manage to do it (yesterday) but failed to get a good first swing on the seventh hole for the double bogey.

"If it wasn't for that, I could have ended my round with one under and if it wasn't for the bogey on the ninth, I could have finished at two-under-par."
