KUALA LUMPUR: The CIMB Classic has South Korea’s Kim Meen Whee walking on air – even though he can drive in style, now that he’s got the keys to a new BMW 740LE Hybrid – following his ace on the par-three 15th at the TPC Kuala Lumpur.
Kim, 25, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, lined up a powerful 182-metre tee-shot when he was at two-under-par after just five-holes of play in his debut at the tournament.
“That’s the first hole-in-one ever in (any) tournament (for me), so it’s pretty exciting.
“That was like the perfect yardage, 207, and the cover on the front edge was like 191, so I just hit smooth five-iron and landed perfect and thought, oh, made it, it’s going in,” he said.
But Kim will have to settle for the car, as he closed his round at 71 following two consecutive bogeys on the sixth and seventh to end at an aggregate play of one-under-par 214, and is currently joint 51st next to America’s Scott Stallings, Charles Howell III and Kevin Na, as well as Adam Hadwin of Canada.
“I bought a new place in Dallas, so, I was going to buy another car.
“I was looking for (a car) and I think I got a good one,” he added.
