Thomas and Schauffele among eight stars for CIMB Classic

KUALA LUMPUR: World No 4 Justin Thomas is excited to return to Kuala Lumpur to take a swing at the CIMB Classic from Oct 12-15.

“I’m really excited to be heading back for the CIMB Classic. I have very fond memories in Kuala Lumpur as it was where I had my first PGA Tour victory in 2015 and then, to successfully defend the title in 2016 was truly special,” said the American.

“I look forward to become the first player to win the CIMB Classic three times. It will be fun to play on the newly renovated West course at TPC KL.

“The golf course suits my game as I can take advantage of my length from off the tees, attack the pins and hopefully make a bunch of birdies.”

World No 18 Xander Schauffele is also back for another edition of the CIMB Classic after his impressive outing of a third place finish in his debut last year.

The 24-year-old American is in impressive form, having played 26 events that saw two runner-up finish, two third places and six top-10 placings.

Joining Thomas and Schauffele are World Golf Hall of Famers, Ernie Els and Davis Love III as well as last year’s runner-up Keegan Bradley, five-time PGA Tour champ HIdeki Matsuyama and Ryder Cup star Paul Casey.

The seven headliners will be joined by defending champion Pat Perez at the US$7 million (RM29 million) tournament where two Malaysia golfers will join the star studded cast.
