Malaysia win bragging rights for Causeway Cup

SHAH ALAM: While Europe were beating the United States over the weekend, a Ryder Cup-like battle was taking place between golfers from Malaysia and Singapore.

Called the Causeway Cup, the Malaysian media defeated their counterparts from Singapore at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club.

In the annual contest, the Malaysian team garnered 18.5 points against Singapore’s 9.5 points.

The two-day competition was played on the Ryder Cup format of fourball, foursome and single.

Malaysia beat Singapore 4.5/2.5 in the fourball, 4/3 in the foursome and 10/4 in the individual.

Since the Causeway Cup was incepted in 2008, Malaysia have won the event seven times while Singapore triumphed on four occasions.

The 16-member Malaysian team who took part in the Causeway Cup consisted of Aziz Hassan, Aminudin Azman, Ahmad Fadali Baharudin, Mohd Suhaimi Daud, Johnathan Ponniah, Imran Mohamad Nor, Mahathir Mohamad Sidi, Ida Fahany Osman, Brian Alexis, Zaini Salihin, Brian Goh, Arep Kulal, Izahar Atan, Amirullah Andi Nur, Abd Yazid Mahad and Pekan Ramli.
