Junior golfers won't be turned away

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers will not turn any golfer away though the response has exceeded the participation limit.

The inaugural Gavin Green-SportExcel Junior Amateur competition, from Dec 18-20, at TPC Kuala Lumpur will see two sessions to accommodate the 228 participants.

Entries for the event were closed as early as three weeks before the tournament due to the many participants.

Malaysia No. 1 Gavin Green and SportExcel executive director Sivanandan Chinnadurai assured that those, who did not gain entry to the competition, will not be turned away as they will be compensated with golf clinics, conducted by Gavin, 24.

“My physio will give the kids talks on how to get better strength and what to eat.

“I’ll be giving clinics, I will have two sessions because there are so many participants. I want to accommodate everyone,” said Gavin.

Siva added: “We had to turn away about 25 of them (for the competition) but we have invited them to join us for the clinic, so that they are not left out.”

Gavin, who currently plays on the European Tour, thanks SportExcel for helping him and his younger brother, Galven in their golf careers.

This has led to the 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner deciding to fund the competition while he hopes to share his experience with the aspiring golfers.
