Romancing Kelly at Pebble Beach

AFTER an exciting year on tour, Malaysian golf darling Kelly Tan ended 2020 with a "sweet birdie" — getting engaged to Canadian Dustin Lattery.

ParGolf reported yesterday that Lattery, a businessman in the hair colour and interior design industries, proposed to Kelly at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Lattery has been dating Kelly, 27, for five years.

An overwhelmed Kelly said "yes". "He proposed at Pebble Beach's 7th hole which is the most iconic par-three in the world."

Recalling Lattery's proposal, she said: "We both hit our tee shots and I actually missed the green and it went into the bunker.

"As I hit my shot out of the bunker, Dustin asked me what's in the hole and I thought it was really just something to stop the flag from flapping around.

"And the next thing I knew, he was already on his knees! It was a special moment we shared together and it was a perfect day at a perfect location and it's a day I will never forget!"

Kelly later posted on her Instagram: "I said yes to the love of my life, my best friend and my rock! Words can never explain my love for you and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."

The engagement was certainly the icing on the cake for the Malaysian No 1 who did remarkably well last year despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kelly, who had to regain her Tour Card through the LPGA Qualifying Series a year earlier, finished a career high 37th in the Race to CME Globe rankings.

She emerged in the top 30 on seven occasions and missed just two cuts from a total of 15 tournaments.

Her most notable performance was a tied-13th place at the women's PGA Championship, the best ever Major outing by a Malaysian — male or female.
