KUALA LUMPUR: Golfer Ashley Lau took another step closer to her dream of playing on the US LPGA Tour when she qualified for the all-important LPGA Q-Series next month.
The 22-year-old Malaysian advanced from the LPGA Qualifying School Stage II yesterday after finishing tied-18th out of 175 competitors at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Florida.
Ashley, who shot rounds of 71, 70, 76 and 73 for a two-over 290, joined 49 others punching their tickets to the Q-Series in Alabama from Dec 1-11.
American Becca Huffer and South Korean Lee Seul Ki shared the medallist honour after topping the leaderboard with a four-under 284.
However, Malaysia's Natasha Andrea Oon and Alyaa Abdulghany did not survive the cut. Natasha closed with a disastrous 80 while Alyaa fared worse with a joint-86th placing.
If Ashley secures her LPGA Tour card, she will join Kelly Tan as the second Malaysian to play on the world's most prestigious women's circuit.
