Ervin secures CIMB sponsorship, declares himself ready for Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Professional golfer Ervin Chang received a timely morale boost ahead of the Malaysian Open which will tee off at the Mines Golf Club on Thursday.

CIMB Group Holdings Berhad today announced their sponsorship of Ervin, one of the pioneers of the CIMB Junior Golf Development Programme in 2010, which will help him take his career further.

Ervin, 26, said he is grateful for CIMB's support.

"Being part of the CIMB family is exciting for me," said Ervin.

"I am definitely happy to be part of this partnership. They stepped forward and offered their support.

"I will be competing against players who are more experienced (at the Malaysian Open).

"I have been working hard during pre-season and will give it my best at the Malaysian Open, I am ready."

Ervin won two gold medals at the Hanoi Sea Games in 2022 and turned professional the same year.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who witnessed the sponsorship signing ceremony, urged more private sector companies to support Malaysian sports.

"I have to thank CIMB for investing a lot in Malaysian sports, we need more cooperation from the corporate sector," said Yeoh.

"This is to ensure that we do not face any disruptions in funding for athletes who are looking to better themselves."

CIMB have a history of supporting top Malaysian talent which includes the likes of squash legend Datuk Nicol David and track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang.
