KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Hockey Club (THC) defender Jang Jong Hyun scored four goals in today's 10-0 thrashing of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in a Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) match at the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium in Kuala Terengganu today.
The 38-year-old South Korean international was on target in the eighth, 25th, 44th and 50th minutes to take his tally to 19 goals with matches against Nurinsafi Sporting on Thursday and Tenaga Nasional on Saturday left to play.
Ismail Abu (13th, 28th), Akhimullah Anuar Esook (32nd, 59th) and Faizal Saari (50th, 57th) completed the rout.
The east coast team lead the MHL standings with 34 points from 11 wins and a draw.
UiTM's Adrian Andy Albert, who is the national No 2 goalkeeper, was at the receiving end as he conceded 10 goals in the match.
THC goalkeeper Hafizuddin Othman said: "The varsity team paid the price for fielding all their reserves in the match.
"It was a good win. We are just two matches away from retaining our league title.
"The good news is that we will play both the remaining matches at home, and our chances of retaining the league looks good," said Hafizuddin today.
Tenaga Nasional, meanwhile, hammered Nurinsafi Sporting 8-1 in Bukit Jalil for their 10th win of the season.
They have 31 points with two matches remaining against TNB Thunderbolts on Thursday and Terengganu on Saturday.
In another match, Maybank edged Young Tigres 3-1 to maintain third spot with 26 points.
Faridzul Afiq gave Maybank the lead in the 12th minute while Razie Rahim scored twice in the 17th and 33rd minutes. Adam Haiqal Abdul Razak replied for Young Tigers in the 29th minute.
