Speedy Tigresses to vie for fifth place at Asian Games

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian women's hockey team performed as expected in the group stage and will be fighting for the fifth position against Thailand at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.

In Tuesday's Group A match, the Speedy Tigresses suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of South Korea.

Their other loss in Group A was 6-0 against India, while they secured convincing victories against Hong Kong (8-0) and Singapore (8-1).

South Korea scored through Eunji (14th), An Sujin (25th, 28th), Seo Jungeun (36th), and Lee Yuri (48th) on Tuesday.

India, who thrashed Hong Kong 13-0 on Tuesday, and South Korea both accumulated 10 points with the former winning the group on goal difference.

Malaysia secured the third spot with six points.

Nasihin Nubli's team headed to the Asian Games with a Category B ticket, where the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) allocated over RM100,000 for the trip, with the goal of finishing fifth.
