Melaka women scrape into Razak Cup semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka came back from a goal down to hold Pahang 1-1 to finish Group B runners-up and seal a place in the Razak Cup women's semi-finals at the National Hockey Stadium today.

Pahang took the lead through Nur Ariana Arisya Ahmad Zaini off a penalty corner in the 25th minute but Melaka equalised eight minute later through Nur Shafika Sharuddin.

Melaka, who had three wins and two draws, will face defending champions Selangor in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Melaka team manager Nor Safrina Rahman said they aim to avenge their defeat to Selangor in the final last year.

"We lost 1-0 narrowly to Selangor last year. My players are all fired up to rise to the occasion this time.

"It will be tough but not impossible to beat them. We have retained five players from last year's squad," said Safrina.

Kuala Lumpur also qualified for the semi-finals by beating Johor 3-1 to top Group B, and will face Group A runners-up Sabah next.

Zunnurain Batriesya Zawawi (28th), Nur Syaza Afiqah Safawi (35th) and Siti Nur Amira Azmi (54th) scored for KL while Siti Syahindah Shahrom (50th) replied for Johor.

In the men's competition, defending champions and Group A winners Perak will face Melaka in the semi-finals while last year's runners-up and Group B champions Pahang will take on Kuala Lumpur in the other semi-final.
