Subahan stays as MHC president for third time

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal has been returned unopposed for the third time as president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).

Nominations closed on Nov 14, and Subahan received the maximum 13 as three affiliates did not send in any nominations. His term will be for four years.

Subahan's first foray into the MHC was in 2015 when former president, the then Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, handed him the baton after he was unanimously elected as the president of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) following the demise of Sultan Azlan Shah in May 2014.

MHC has 16 affiliates — 14 states as well as Police and Armed Forces. A total of 32 votes will be cast to decide only the men's vice-presidents as two women Veeps were also returned unopposed.

MHC CEO Nishel Kumar Said: "The two deputy presidents nominees were also returned unopposed as well as only two women's veeps were nominated and so only seven men's vice-president will go through the voting process to elect five."

Former vice-president Datuk Najmi Razak had been elevated to the deputy president's post replacing outgoing Jadadish Chandra.

And the women's deputy president Datin Mary Saadiah was also upgraded from her vice-president's post.

The women's vice-presidents returned unopposed are Rogayah Mohamed (11) and Zaillah Tahir (4).

Men's vice-presidents posts will see incumbents Datuk Seri Anil Jeet (11 nominations), Shurizan Mansor (11), Hasnizam Hassan (10) and Ranjit Singh (6) being challenged by newcomers Datuk Sayuti Samat (8), S. Ganesan (5) and M. Gobinathan (3).

"The Annual General Meeting will be held on Nov 25, with voting only to select five men's vice-presidents from the seven nominees. All other positions have already been secured," said Nishel.
