Malaysia fall short in quarter-final bid in JWC

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Junior World Cup (JWC) ambitions took a hit as they fell short of their quarter-final target, succumbing to a 5-2 defeat against Australia in their final Group A match at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Despite playing in patches, the Young Tigers managed to score two goals, but they were unable to gain control of the match.

Malaysia will now play Egypt on Monday in the 9th-16th classification match, while Australia meet Group B champions France in the quarter-finals.

Australia got their goals off Cooper Burns (second minute), Jake Lambeth (sixth, 28th), Campbell Geddes (15th, 45th),

Harris Iskandar Osman (21st) and Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel (44th) scored for Malaysia.
