It's pole position for Hafizh Syahrin in Moto2 European Championship

PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia rider Hafizh Syahrin will start on pole position in Monday’s Moto2 European Championship at the first leg of the FIM CEV Repsol International Championship of the season at the Albacete Circuit in Spain.

Heavy rain matched with strong winds put Hafizh on hold in the second session but he went straight to work after it subsided, putting his MotoGP skills to good use.

Hafizh clocked a time of 1:14.018 seconds, beating debuting rider Hector Garzo of Team Wimu CNS by 0.123s.

“With good setup, I could push and get a good lap timing so I’m happy that I managed to secure pole.”

Behind Hafizh and Garzo was Indonesian Dimas Ekky of Astra Honda Racing Team in third.

Meanwhile, in Moto3 Junior World Championship, Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin is slowly gaining confidence for a combined best of 1:44.395s to put him in 20th for tomorrow’s race.

“I tried to improve my qualifying time in the afternoon, but the track conditions were very difficult.”

“It was very windy and there were also patches of water on the track but I’m happy to be starting at P20 in my first race with Petronas Sprinta Racing.”

Thai rider Somkiat Chantra of AP Honda RT made his debut in the Moto3 category where he earned his first pole in a qualifying session at a time of 1:42.063s with MRW Mahindra Aspar Team's Raul Fernandez in second.
