Verstappen, Vettel downplay Ferrari move

SEPANG: Both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen have downplayed any chance of the latter making a surprise move to Ferrari over the next few seasons.

Vettel, who currently drives alongside Kimi Raikkonen for the Scuderia, said the youngster has a long career ahead of him. However, he was reluctant to reveal how he rates the Red Bull driver.

The German has signed a new three year contract which will see him driving for Ferrari until 2020 while Raikkonen's deal runs until the end of 2018.

“At the end of the day, you have to be prepared to race anyone on the grid,” said the 30-year-old, during the drivers’ press conference ahead of the Petronas Malaysia Formula One Grand Prix at Sepang today.

“Obviously, Max is still quite young and has more years than we (with Raikkonen) have.

“In F1, some things take time and some things tend to happen more quickly; it is a bit pointless to look too far into the future.

“For now, we (Ferrari) are calm because we know what is going on this year and for next year as well.”

Verstappen, who has been linked with both Ferrari and Mercedes, echoed Vettel's sentiments.

“To be honest, I do not want to look too much into the future. I just want to finish it (the season) off in a good way. I know where I am next season so we will just have to wait.”

Verstappen is highly rated and is widely believed to be a potential future world champion. His contract with Red Bull Racing runs until 2019.
