Zulfahmi out to impress in Jerez test

KUALA LUMPUR: SIC Racing Team rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin will use the final pre-season test at the Jerez Circuit tomorrow to get a good idea of where he stands before the Moto2 season starts later this month.

Zulfahmi said the test will be a good opportunity for him to gauge his level of performance so far against his Moto2 peers.

The 26-year-old, signed last month as a last minute replacement for Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, clocked some respectable times during a private test at Sepang last month. Hafizh has joined MotoGP outfit Monster Yamaha Tech3.

"Jerez will be the first time everyone in Moto2 will ride at the same time, so it’s going to be hard and for sure everyone will be looking at the lap time, but I feel ready for this," said Zulfahmi.

"I really expect to be competitive from the beginning because I had a good feeling with my bike in Sepang. We tried many different things with the set-up and I finished the test there feeling very happy with what we found.

"Of course, the track is a lot different in Jerez, so I hope that we don’t have to change so much to make it work. I feel confident that we can further improve before the first race in Qatar.”

Zulfahmi had spent the last two seasons competing in the Supersports category of the World Superbike Championship. He previously spent six seasons in the 125cc and Moto3 categories in the World Championships.

The new season will kick off at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar on March 18.
