Steady progress for Adam at Mugello

KUALA LUMPUR: Adam Norrodin made positive progress in free practice (FP) on the opening day of the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix on Friday.

The Petronas Sprinta Racing rider clocked two minutes and 0.067 seconds for 23rd in FP1 before climbing to 14th on 1:58.247s in FP2 at the Mugello circuit.

Adam, who crashed out of the race in Le Mans a fortnight ago, said he was pleased with his opening day performance in Italy.

Spaniard Jorge Martin topped the timesheets in both sessions after clocking 1:58.078s (FP1) and 1:57.104s (FP2).

"I spent some downtime with the family after Le Mans and I came here feeling very relaxed," said the 19-year-old.

"I feel really happy to be back on the bike and it was working really well today. My position was not great in FP1 but I had a good feeling on the bike and felt confident.

"We made good steps in FP2 and I am happy with what we achieved. However, there is still improvement to be made as we are still far off the pole position.

"We still need to find something to help me improve. I will continue to work hard tomorrow for qualifying."

Adam's teammate Ayumu Sasaki of Japan achieved similar pace, coming in 22nd (2:00.029s) and 15th (1:58.400s) in FP1 and FP2 respectively.

In Moto2, SIC Racing Team's Niki Tuuli (Finland) clocked 1:55.007s for 26th in FP1. Spaniard Alex Marquez topped the session on 1:52.515s.
