Adam, Khairul narrowly miss out on the points in Austria

KUALA LUMPUR: Adam Norrodin's hopes of making up for his mistake at Brno last week did not materialise after finishing out of the points in Moto3 at the Austrian Motorcycle Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Petronas Sprinta Racing rider who started from 10th on the grid at the Red Bull Ring finished the race a disappointing 17th, a distant 19.419 seconds behind race winner Marco Bezzecchi (Redox PruestelGP).

Petronas teammate Ayumu Sasaki of Japan, however, fared much better as he placed a season’s best seventh (+8.585s) which was his third top-10 result of the year. He started from 18th on the grid.

Adam, who crashed out of the race at the Czech GP last week, could not hide his disappointment with the result.

"Im really disappointed today, I was really looking forward to the race. I felt that I could have done better," said Adam.

"At the beginning I felt that I lacked pace. I could catch them when braking but I couldn't keep up on the corner exits.

"When the tyre (tread) dropped I started to struggle a lot. I almost crashed a number of times but managed to save it (from crashing).

"In the end I dropped so many positions, honestly I have nothing to say. I do not know what to do anymore, I gave it everything I had, hopefully, next race I can come back stronger."

Bezzecchi led from start to finish, taking the title in 37 minutes and 13.198 seconds. Fellow Italian Enea Bastianini (+0.473s) and Spaniard Jorge Martin (+0.544s) finished second and third.

In Moto2, Khairul Idham Pawi (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) just missed out on a points finish after coming in 16th (+28.493s), just half a second behind teammate Tetsuta Nagashima (Japan).

Finn Niki Tuuli (Petronas Sprinta Racing) finished 21st (+41.727s) for the second week in a row.

Italian Francesco Bagnaia won the race in 37:45.914s. Portugal's Miguel Oliveira (+0.264s) and Luca Marini (+5.953s) of Italy came in second and third.

The next round of the championships will be held at the Silverstone circuit on Aug 24-26.
