Hafizh tight-lipped about future

MOTOGP rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, who has lost his seat with Red Bull KTM Tech3 for next season, is remaining tight-lipped on his future.

With no seats available on the MotoGP grid for him next year, a move back to Moto2 is very likely for Hafizh, who previously spent four seasons (2014-17) in the intermediate class with Petronas Raceline.

It is learnt that three Moto2 teams are interested in signing Hafizh with Petronas Sprinta Racing and Malaysian-backed outfit ONEXOX TKKR SAG believed to be among them.

“I have not decided where I am going next year. I don't want to comment on my future for now.

“I just want to focus on doing my best for the rest of the season because I still have a contract with Tech3.

“My motivation is still high, and my aim is to achieve good results before I leave.”

Tech3 have signed South African Brad Binder to take Hafizh’s seat for next season.

Meanwhile, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali, also the team principal for Petronas MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 teams, is confident of securing another slot in Moto2 from Dorna, who hold the rights for the World Championships.

This would allow them to have two riders in the intermediate class and possibly pave the way for Hafizh to join the team.

“My advice to Hafizh is to keep working hard for the rest of the season. He cannot afford to be too disappointed and give up,” said Razlan.
