Hamilton says not rushing to beat Schumacher's record

SIX-TIME Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton is in no rush to beat Michael Schumacher’s record.

In fact, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS racer is not even thinking of equalling the German legend’s seven world titles yet.

Speaking to the press yesterday at the PETRONAS Philharmonic Hall in Kuala Lumpur, Hamilton said: “Honestly, I'm not looking that far ahead, so I can't really tell.

“Of course we will be looking for another Championship but we don't know when that will come.

“Maybe next year, maybe not. That is why it is very important for me to be grateful for what I have.”

The 34-year-old Briton won his 11th race of the season on Sunday after dominating from start to finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton, however, fears that fatigue will affect both the drivers and the mechanics, as Formula One will host a record 22 races next season with the addition of Vietnam and the return of Zandvoort in the Netherlands.

“It's not helpful (to have 22 races). The extra two weeks that are added is going to make things harder.

“The season is generally too long anyway but people are still excited for the last race.

“Maybe with the new introductions, it will be exciting for them,” Hamilton added.

Also present at the event was Hamilton's teammate, Valtteri Bottas, who came in second on the driver's championship standing.

The superb showing by both the drivers also secured Mercedes-AMG Petronas their sixth consecutive FIA Formula OneTM World Constructors’ Championship (WCC).

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS are the first team in the sport’s history to win six double championships in a row.

Both Hamilton and Bottas, presented the trophy to PETRONAS president and group CEO, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.
