Hakim Danish shines in Italy

KUALA LUMPUR: Up-and-coming Malaysian rider Hakim Danish Ramli claimed back-to-back wins in the Coppa Italia Junior MiniGP Championships in Pomposa, Italy, over the weekend.

The 14-year-old from SIC Racing Team was in his element as he recorded two new fastest lap records during qualifying before winning both Race 1 and 2.

Racing in the OhVale 190 GP-2 Junior category, Hakim had gained entrance into the GP2 Expert Pro class via a wild card.

He was awarded a wild card based on his current campaign in FIM CEV Championship's Honda European Talent Cup (ETC) this year.

In the weekend's race, Hakim went up against six other riders, all from Europe, on the 1.552km circuit. He clocked 1:01.432s to erase the old record of 1:02.0 in qualifying.

He then won Race 1 in style by breaking his own fastest lap record. He clocked 1:01.270 to finish ahead of Thomas Bonomi (CMV) and Davide Ferrazzi (Dolomiti Corse).

In Race 2, the Terengganu lad bounced back from a slow start to claim the title, finishing ahead of Ferrazzi and Lorenzo La Sorsa (Settimoto).

"I'm happy to race in the Coppa Italia. It is a valuable experience to race and meet other junior riders here" said Hakim Danish.

In the Asian Talent Cup (ATC), Hakim Danish, who has made the podium three times this season, is fourth overall with 57 points.
