FIM MiniGP trio secure Valencia ticket

KUALA LUMPUR: Young riders Farres Putra Fadhill, Emil Idzhar Ezuan and Farish Hafiy Farid Sezli have booked their slots for the FIM MiniGP World Series Finals in Valencia next month.

The trio qualified after finishing in the top three of the standings at the FIM MiniGP Malaysia Series competition, which concluded at the Sepang International Karting Circuit on Sunday.

Farres' consistent riding throughout the eight-race season saw him emerging as the overall champion in the 160CC class competition.

It was, however, Adib Arsyad who impressed the most during the final round as he won both races in mixed conditions on Sunday.

Adib fended off Emil to win race one of round four in 14 minutes and 42.469 seconds, forcing the latter to settle for second (+0.023s). Arzhan Hakim (+6.210s) completed the podium.

Adib then won race two — the final race of the season — in 15 minutes and 9.412 seconds.

Farres came in a distant second (+8.998s) after duelling with Emil in the latter stages of the race. Emil came in third (+9.510s) while Farish was fourth (+9.599s).

Farres' second-place finish in race two was enough to secure him the FIM MiniGP Malaysia series title with 135 points.

Emil settled for second with 122 points, while Farish was third on 120. Adib's victories in the final two races pushed him up to fourth overall, six points adrift of Farish.

The FIM MiniGP World Series Finals will be held in Valencia on Nov 12-14.
