SIC, Petronas ink three-year deal, track is now Petronas Sepang International Circuit

KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and Petronas have announced a new deal that sees the iconic track being officially renamed Petronas Sepang International Circuit.

Petronas senior general manager of group strategic relations and communications Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz believed the three-year naming rights partnership would benefit the Malaysian motorsports industry.

Neither SIC nor Petronas disclosed the value of the deal.

"Petronas is honoured to embark on this partnership, an investment that represents the pinnacle of our long-standing relationship," she said in a press statement released by SIC today.

"We are committed to supporting the growth and development of the sports and entertainment industry in Malaysia and beyond.

"This partnership goes beyond just naming rights — it signifies our dedication to promoting world-class events, fostering talent development and showcasing our nation's capabilities on a global stage."

SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif echoed Anita's sentiments.

"As one of the industry leaders in motorsports through its (Petronas) engagements in Formula One and MotoGP, this (partnership) shall open doors to new opportunities to host more world class events at our world class venue."

The announcement is timely as the circuit will host the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia (MotoGP) from Nov 10 to 12.
