Najib congratulates men's hockey team

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has conveyed his congratulations to the Malaysian men‘s hockey team which qualified for the 2018 Men‘s Hockey World Cup to be played in India.

“Syabas (Congratulations) to our hockey team which has qualified for the 2018 World Cup after beating India in the quarter-finals of the Hockey World League in London,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Malaysia beat India 3-2 in a hard-fought quarter-final match.

The top-four finish was enough for Stephen van Huizen‘s side to qualify for the World Cup for the eighth time after having qualified in 1973, 1975, 1978, 1982, 1998, 2002 and 2014.

Malaysia will square off with Argentina in a semi-final match of the Hockey World League on Saturday.

The South American team had beaten Pakistan 3-1 in another quarter-final match.
