Malaysia all set for better rugby performance: Coach

KUALA LUMPUR: MALAYSIA is well on their way to improve their record of a silver medal after the men’s rugby 7s team met expectations to dominate Day One of Sea Games' rugby 7s competitions at MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, just now.

The team, coached by Mohd Saizul Hafifi Md Noor, excelled in all three of their matches with the first being a shutout against Cambodia (51-0) in the opener, followed by their narrow win against Singapore (12-10) and a crucial win against defending champions, Philippines.

The men’s team still have Thailand and Indonesia in their path before booking their berth to the finals.

Meanwhile, in the women’s competitions, the national team lost two out of three of their matches.

It wasn’t the best start for the ladies as Malaysia lost to Singapore 17-0 in their opening match but managed to recover in the second match when they beat Laos 36-0.

Unfortunately, the girls closed off their Day One campaign with a loss to Thailand 38-5.

The ladies have just one more match against the Philippines before the next round of matches is decided.
