KL2017: Phee defends 100m breaststroke gold in style

KUALA LUMPUR: National swimmer Phee Jinq En successfully defended her 100m breaststroke gold in fine fashion at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017).

Jinq En clocked one minute and 9.00 seconds at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil to erase the former games record of 1:09.82s, which had been set by fellow Malaysian Siow Yi Ting at the 2009 Laos games.

Singapore's Samantha Louisa Ginn Yeo settled for silver on 1:09.44s while Anandia Treciel V Evato of Indonesia (1:10.82s) completed the podium.

Jinq En said she was relieved to defend her gold medal.

"I felt a lot of pressure to defend this gold so to actually do it is a huge relief for me," said the 19-year-old.

"I really wanted to win it in front of our home fans.

"I did not expect that I would be able to but I knew I was capable of it.

"To get the games record was just a bonus for me,"

Welson Sim, Yeap Zheng Yang, Lim Ching Hwang and Keith Lim settled for bronze in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay on 7:26.91s.
