Philippines trash M'sia in women's 9-ball semi-finals

MALAYSIAN Cue Sports ended their Sea Games campaign without a title to show for the first time in eight years after Klaudia Djajalie and Suhana Dewi Sabtu were ousted in the women's nine-ball semi-finals at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

Both players lost to former world champions from the Philippines.

Klaudia suffered a 7-2 thrashing by Chezka Centeno, while Suhana failed to pose a threat in the 7-1 defeat to Rubilen Amit.

Klaudia and Suhana earned a bronze medal each for their efforts.

Nothing was expected from both players as they were neither exposed to international meets nor assisted by a coach for the last few years.

Malaysia ended their Sea Games cue sports campaign with three bronze with Rory Thor Chuan Leong-Moh Keen Hoo earning the third medal in the snooker doubles event.

The Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF) had source all limited funding from the National Sports Council for Rory and Keen Hoo, leaving the other national players unattended.

Rory, who has been playing in the World Snooker Tour since 2014, and Keen Hoo, were knocked out in the snooker singles first round.

The federation, who expected two titles from snooker, must now go back to the drawing board to plan out a comprehensive programme for the sport.

MSBF president Melvin Chia was particularly upset with his snooker players.

"Everything was set for Rory and Keen Hoo. They could not handle the pressure.

"They became worried in their own backyard and were tense during matches.

"No excuse for Rory... he spent years in the World Tour, but yet he crumbled when it mattered most.

"We will do a post-mortem later and see what we can improve on", said Melvin.
