(Hockey) Fitri to rejoin national squad in Dhaka after visiting son in hospital

KUALA LUMPUR: National hockey player Fitri Saari has decided to return to Dhaka for the Asia Cup after doctors confirmed his son Adam Zafran is now in stable condition.

The midfield playmaker confirmed his decision today and is scheduled to fly out to Dhaka at 10pm tonight.

It is good news for national coach Stephen Van Huizen, whose charges are set to face Pakistan in their first round robin semi-final match at the Maulana Bhasani stadium tomorrow.

"The doctors told me that he (Adam) is improving. After consulting with my wife, I have decided to go back to Dhaka," said Fitri when contacted today.

"It was a tough decision but I hope to at least win a medal at the Asia Cup.

"I don't care if some don't agree with my decision and criticise me. I will keep in close contact with my family and will be on standby (to return to Malaysia).

"Obviously, it is a tough situation but I will try my best to focus on the job at hand."

Adam, who is only five-months-old, had been suffering from a lung infection and had been warded at the Serdang Hospital for the past two months.

Fitri, after being advised by his son's doctor, had returned to Malaysia from Dhaka on Sunday to be with Adam as he was in critical condition.
