Asia Cup: Faizal loses four teeth but gains Best Player award

FAIZAL Shaari may have lost four teeth, but gained much in the hockey Asia Cup after being awarded as the Best Player of the Tournament.

He was also the Asia Cup's joint top-scorer on seven goals with Harmanpreet Singh of India.

Covering his mouth, Faizal said he will head to the dentist for replacements. But it has been worth the pain.

"Being in a team which finally played in the final of the Asia Cup after 35 years is worth the sacrifices every one of my teammates went through in Dhaka.

"I believe it (playing in the final) has made us stronger as a team, and we can look forward to better times," said Faizal who lost his teeth after being elbowed by a Pakistan player in the round robin.

His brother Fitri also made a huge sacrifice when he left his critically-ill son in hospital back home to return to Dhaka for the knock-out stage.

"This is family. We are a family. That's why we can click so well," said Faizal while waving his hand to show his team-mates who were getting ready to collect their maiden Asia Cup silver medal.
