The tension goes on for Hafifi and Wendy

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian sport fans continue to wait anxiously for weightlifter Hafifi Mansor’s B sample doping test result and the verdict from the doping hearing for diver Wendy Ng.

The fates of the two athletes remain unknown till today.

Hafifi, who tested positive for anabolic steroid at the Australian Open in March, had his B sample tested on Nov 7 in Sydney.

Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) acting secretary Abu Hanapah Ismail is perplexed by the situation.

Hafifi had been expecting to receive the result by last week.

"I have just spoken to the MWF president (Datuk Ong Poh Eng) as well as the Podium Programme manager who represented us (as witness) during the B sample test. They both have not received the result yet," said Hanapah today.

"We were supposed to receive it by this week but there have been no updates as of now."

Wendy, who tested positive for the appetite suppressant sibutramine at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017) in August, attended a hearing with the Sea Games Federation on Nov 6 to determine whether she should be stripped of the two gold she won at KL2017.

KL2017 medical and anti-doping committee head Datuk Dr S. S. Cheema said he has asked the hearing committee panel to expedite their reports.

"So far they (hearing committee) have only completed two reports and still have one more left," said Dr Cheema, today.

"I have just sent an email saying that I want them to send me all (reports) by this week.”

The panel for the hearing comprised three persons: one from Vietnam, one from Singapore while the third is a foreigner residing in Malaysia.
