KUALA LUMPUR: Bowler Sin Li Jane capped Malaysia's great outing at the World Championships in Las Vegas with the women's Masters silver yesterday.
Li Jane, 25, did well to see off three rivals in the first three rounds before succumbing to a 256-225, 236-221 defeat by defending champion Jung Da Wun of South Korea at the South Point Bowling Plaza.
The bronze medal went to both Shayna Ng of Singapore and Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia.
For the Perak-born Li Jane, it was her second silver medal in as many days, after finishing second in the women's doubles with Shalin Zulkifli.
Li Jane said: "It wasn't easy to get into the finals. I had to first clear three steps, so my concentration level was at a 100 percent.
"I wouldn't say my opponent had an edge in the final or anything like that. To me, we are all among the top bowlers in the world. It's just that in every match, there is bound to be winner. We all fought hard for the medals."
Shalin and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman lost in the first and second round respectively, while in the men's Masters, Ahmad Muaz Fishol lost in the second round.
Prior to the World Championships, Li Jane and Siti Safiyah became the first Malaysians to win a title each (PWBA Lincoln Open and Wichita Open) on the US Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour.
Li Jane won three gold medals and one silver at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017) in August, as well as coming out tops in the ABF Tour in Thailand (April).
On her expectations for 2018, Li Jane said: "My goal is to win at the Asian Games in Jakarta. I would also like to continue winning tournaments, so we will see.
"However, I would like to take it one game at a time and not pressure myself."
Malaysia ended their campaign in the World Championships with one gold (women's team of five) and three silver (women's doubles, all-events and Masters).
It is Malaysia's best medal haul at the world meet since the 1999 edition in Abu Dhabi, when they bagged two silver and one bronze.
