(Bowling) Timmy, Li Jane off to flying starts in Storm Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Timmy Tan and Sin Li Jane, on Monday, got off to a flying start in the Korea PBA Storm Cup in Gyeonggi, South Korea.

Following the opening block of six games, Timmy topped Squad A, after reeling in lines of 231, 231, 228, 279, 248, 268 for a total of 1,485 pinfalls.

Li Jane, who has had a splendid season, took top spot in Squad C with lines of 206, 234, 258, 215, 195, 249 for a 1,405 total.

Only the top 15 bowlers from Squad A to D (each squad comprising 60 bowlers) will qualify for the second round after completing another block of six games on Tuesday.

Rafiq Ismail and seasoned campaigner Shalin Zulkifli are also on course to make the cut with totals of 1,363 and 1,367, respectively.

Asian No 1 Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, however, has some work to do after managing only 1,238 pinfalls in Squad A for 29th position.

The prestigious mixed field championship offers a total prize money of 100 million Won (RM376,000).

Women bowlers also receive an eight-pin handicap in each game.

Other top bowlers in the fray are Americans Danielle McEwan, Parker Bohn III and Walter Ray Williams.
