Coach Poad still in critical condition

KUALA LUMPUR: Top national athletics coach Poad Md Kassim is still in critical condition but stable.

This was stated today by his wife, Khalidah Ahmad who said only a strong spirit and prayers will help Poad pull through after a medically induced coma.

Khalidah said Poad, who groomed Khairul Hafiz Jantan into Malaysia’s fastest man, is now hooked to a breathing machine.

“His condition is stabilising but he still needs the assistance of machines. Doctors explained that it’s up to his own will to wake up from the coma, so I hope and pray for him to be strong,” she said.

Poad’s athletes, Khairul Hafiz, Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap and Muhammad Solihin Jamali came back from their training in Cameron Highlands to be by their coach’s bedside at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru today. Poad was hospitalised last Monday following a lung infection

Poad, a teacher from Chabau, Jasin, holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Open University Malaysia.

He guided Khairul Hafiz to the 100m gold at the KL Sea Games in August.
