Kumar ready to face world body over doping case

KUALA LUMPUR: National goalkeeper S. Kumar has declared that he is ready to face the International Hockey Federation (FIH) for his doping case hearing.

Kumar, provisionally suspended after testing positive for sibutramine at the Asia Cup in Dhaka last year, said he has nothing to worry and will do his best to explain what happened to the FIH panel.

The date for the hearing, however, has yet to be determined.

"At the moment I just have to wait (for the hearing date). I am ready and will give my statement based on what I remember," said Kumar.

"I will tell the truth and it will likely be about what happened in Bangladesh. I do not think it (sibutramine) entered my system here in Malaysia.

“I do not know for sure how it entered."

Kumar, who has represented the country 295 times, added that he is training on his own at the moment.

"I do a lot of running. I am not able to train my goalkeeping skills as there is no one who can help me train.

"This is why I am hoping to have the hearing as soon as possible, so this can be settled."

National Anti-Doping Agency (ADAMAS) deputy director Nishel Kumar had stated that Kumar needs to prepare evidence of how the substance entered his system and the supporting statements for the hearing.
